Achieving Amazing Skin: Ages 18 – 25

23 Jun

Over the past few months I have spoken to many women that do not understand the importance of a daily skin cleansing and moisturizing routine.  These women love to wear to make-up to enhance their beauty but they are missing the mark because they’re overlooking the most important step:

Always begin with a clean canvas!

Would a painter create a masterpiece on a dirty dingy poster broad?  Of course not, so why should you?!?  Over the next few days I’ll be sharing a few tips I found in Cosmopolitan Magazine (with a few additions of my own) for each age group.

Today I’d like to chat with my young fashionistas out there ages 18 – 25.

Your oil glands are working at full speed which means your skin is supple and naturally well moisturized. At this time your cells regenerate regularly, giving you an even texture and a pretty, rosy glow. But as you probably also know, there’s a downside: Excess oil production sometimes causes breakouts and a shiny look.

Your skin strategy should be:

  • Suds up with a mild cleanser to remove makeup, oil and dirt without stripping your skin. A good pick: Velocity Facial Cleanser, $10

  • Go for an oil-free moisturizer (with SPF during the day). Pick one that has antioxidants like vitamins C or E — or better yet, a combination of both. The free-radical fighters help prevent and repair sun and environmental damage. I like TimeWise® Age-Fighting Moisturizer Sunscreen SPF 15, $22.

  • Keep blemishes at bay by exfoliating one to two times a week with a gentle scrub. If you’re prone to breakouts, try a benzoyl peroxide system like Proactiv. Just have a lone pimple or two? Dab on a salicylic acid spot treatment. It’ll zap your zits pronto. A new one: Aveeno Clear Complexion Correcting Treatment, $14.

Top tip: Start using eye cream. The skin around your orbs is the thinnest and least oily, so it requires a thicker moisturizer.
